From the “don’t believe what you read on blogs” files:

SciFi channel has confirmed that Season 5 of Battlestar Galactica will air in January of 2009 and not April of 2009.

Several blogs (not this one) claimed that Sci Fi Channel was going to frak over the fans and push back the final season.

The reports are erroneous, the channel confirmed to SCI FI Wire. “It is still slated to return January 2009,” a spokesman for the channel said.

**UPDATE** Technically speaking the January start is being called Season 4 by NBC Universal – i expect when they do their box sets they’ll call it 4.5. But it’s really Season 5. How do you have a show in the same season more than 8 months apart? that’s nuts it’s season 5 and Sci Fi is just playing around with numbers for some unknown reason.
**if you haven’t seen the new episodes you can pick them up on Amazon now too Battlestar Galactica season 5 aka season 4.5

Both season 2 and 3 had 20 episodes. Season 4 was scheduled to have 20 episodes aswell. And as stated already when season 4 began to air, only the first 10 episodes would be aired, with the following last 10 of season 4 being aired early this year.

The reason as I recall it was that they wanted to avoid airing the final episodes during the sports season, with regards to viewer ratings.

If this was the true reason or not, dunno. But the long break was planned way back and season 4 is 20 episodes.

Hope this has helped to clarify the season numbering for some of you.

5. dena - April 9, 2009

when will season five come out on disk

6. I just know these things - May 1, 2009

they are calling it 4.5 because it was all to be in one season (season 4) but then there was the writers strike, and they were “ending” it just in case they didn’t come back on the air. since they did come back they just finished out the season.

7. chaos - May 8, 2009

Sci Fi decided to delay the lats 10 episodes which were already filmed by July/August of 2008, BSG could’ve aired in Fall. The network only has very few shows to air on their Friday night line-up. Now that BSG is over, what do they have on Fridays? Exactly. So they delayed it til Jan because they needed a good show for Winter 2009 because they had no other…During Summer and Fall they finished up some other shows like Stargate Atlantis, Sanctuary, etc. Season 4.0 and 4.5 are Season 4 and should be viewed as such.

9. monster - November 23, 2009

YES why cancel the show voluntary if there are lots of people waiting to see it. Crap ending if you ask me.

10. John Hawcock - January 30, 2010

What are the titles of the last episodes? I have a bxed set which includes: Razor, He That Believeth Me, Siox of One, The Ties That Bind, Escape Velocity, The Road Less Travelled, Faith, Guess What’s Coming To Dinner, Sine Qua Non, The Hub and Revelations. Were there any episodes after Revelations?

QJo - March 23, 2010

Yes, “Revelations” was the final episode of season 4.0, which was followed by season 4.5, and I believe 2specials. Try this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battlestar_galactica_episodes
