Mara Jade Skywalker didn’t have to die at the hands of Darth Caedus.
It was a wasted empty death…
Lucas Licensing apparently allowed this disaster to happen and now we should call on them to reverse it. The Sith have the power to bring back the dead and so too then does the Force.
Whether it is Ben or Luke Skywalker or even someone else I don’t care. I just want Mara Jade back.
To that end we here at ShowMeSciFi have started a petition to Bring Back Mara Jade.

The entire Skywalker-Solo family structure will be destroyed by Mara’s death! For one thing, she wasn’t killed by an enemy, but a family member. That’s just not going to work. There is no way that Jacen can live at the end, which means that a total of 3 family members will be dead. This is going to destroy Star Wars! And also, this death isn’t like Anakin’s. Mara has been with us for 16 years! Unlike Anakin who was only here for 2! Bring her back!!!
I was in Chapters today and spoiled myself by seeing who Darth Ever So Stupid decided to sacrifice.
I’m numb. One of my favorite heroines is gone.

I hate to admit this but killing Mara was the only choice that made sense from a writer’s/publisher’s standpoint. Here is why…
Because Lucas owns the rights to Luke, Han, Leia and all the characters from the movies, they cannot be killed by authors writing for the EU star wars novels without his express permission so all of those characters are out. It would be a bad idea from a publisher standpoint to kill off younger characters such as Ben, Jaina, Zekk, Tahiri, etc. because they’re going to need these characters down the line to continue the star wars saga because let’s face it, Luke and Leia are over 60, and I think Han is over 70!!!
Mara, while a fan favorite and loved by all, was approaching the end of her usefulness to the EU because they were not likely to keep using the Rebel/Empire generation in future stories…at least I hope not, I think any more stories of Han and Wedge flying in combat is a bit silly at their age. But killing Mara gives the series the edge it needs to really build the conflict between Luke, Jacen, Jaina and especially Ben which is likely where the EU is going to continue on with.
If you’re wondering about the Lucas rights thing with regard to Chewbacca, I believe Lucas released his rights so a band could make a tribute song to Chewbacca. I think it plays in the background in the movie “Clerks” when they’re in the video store talking about contractors being killed with the 2nd death star was destroyed.
And don’t ask me about Crix Madine’s death in Darksaber…I assume since he was such a minor character from the movies that Lucas probably didn’t care??? Who knows…

You know why they were right to kill off Mara? This is it. Look at the ending it left us with. You were so emotionally distraught about a fictional character you made an online petition. Score one for the Lucas team!
And if they do cave and somehow bring Mara back (and I don’t mean have her stick around as a force ghost for a few years), I’m out of here. SWEU is a rough group of books to read anyway. I don’t need to be rereading The Last Command and be distracted by how cheesy it was to make Mara alive again. I can certainly satisfy myself with the TV series and a Traviss book here and there. Heck, True Colors is coming out soon; the RC series will keep me good for a couple years. No need to stress about Jacen or what have you.
How could it possibly be a “wasted, empty death”? LOOK AT YOU! The point of a novel is to make the reader feel, whether it’s a comedy, a romance, or a Star Wars book. That’s the whole point of writing, not that “to explain a point or inform the reader” crap they teach you in school. The end of Sacrifice was clearly intended to worry the hell out of you. Mara’s dead, Jacen killed her, then became a Sith Lord, Luke’s gone a little nutso (again), Ben’s…doing whatever it is a kid GAG officer does, and Vader’s rolling in his metaphorical grave. Yeah, “The entire Skywalker-Solo family structure will be destroyed by Mara’s death!” THAT’S THE POINT! Clearly you people don’t understand the concept or value of character conflict! No one — yourselves included — is going to buy a book where everything goes according to plan and everyone is nice and happy. That’s why Palpatine was such a villian, that’s why Vader was Luke’s father, that’s why Thrawn was killed, and that’s why there were assassins at Luke and Mara’s wedding. Admit it. I don’t care what sort of boycott you claim now, but as soon as the next book is out, you’re gonna be there reading it, desperate to know what happens. Personally, it’s the best Star Wars book I’ve ever read, and I’ve read just about all of them. Better than the ROTS novelization, better than NJO: Traitor, better than Star By Star, better than all of them. Why? Because I can’t stop thinking about it. Because I find myself washing the dishes and worrying that Luke’s going to fall to the Dark Side again. Or I find myself turning off the TV because I’m not paying attention to it while I’m raging at Jacen. That’s good writing. That’s GREAT writing.
And by the way. I have to point this out at least once a week, as we seem to have particularly obnoxious fans here at Star Wars. Lucas says X about Star Wars. Or rather, a Lucas-approved book says X. Lucas owns Star Wars. Therefore, X is true. Even if you don’t like X, X is still true. Why? BECAUSE YOU DON’T GET A VOTE. You don’t get to say how many clones fought in the Clone Wars, or how long a Super Star Destroyer is, OR WHETHER OR NOT A CHARACTER DIES. You don’t get a vote. If you’re lucky, Lucas appeases the masses by giving a character a small part in a movie/tv series. But you don’t get to demand that X be made Y. You don’t get a vote. If you don’t like it, learn to write fanfiction or switch to Star Trek.

Exactly. That is why Mara died, why I thought it would be Mara that would die, and why I will continue reading the Legacy of the Force series. As I told someone else recently, you can’t have redemption without sin.
One of the things that I loved about mara jade was she was one of the only characters that Luke really fell in love with and who loved him back. I personally have read so many stories that there is always someone has to die and it always the partner of the main character. I mean i am sick of having bad endings in all these really cool stories. So BRING BACK MARA!!!!!!
Do not count my response as a “signature” please. Like it or not a strong character had to go in order for Jacen to get where he is. I thought it was rather smart to do it this way, remember “he will immortalize his love.” As opposed to killing somebody he loves he “killed” any normal loving relations he can ever have again. That is one hell of a burden, and one hell of a sacrifice. To add to that poor Ben will now forever be angry and burning with hatred which Jacen will be able to use to turn him into one of the strongest Jedi the galaxy has ever seen. I’m sure we haven’t seen the last of Mara and I for see many great stories stemming from this event. Maybe a climatic event similar to when Vader told Luke those famous lines, but in this case it would be Jacen spilling it to Ben… should be good, I’m excited.
Nothing ruins a good story like an ending that sucks. Fortunately, in sci fi, unlike real life [which is why sci fi is *soooo* much *better* than real life], bad endings can be undone. Bring back Mara.
Heres a disturbing thought… What if Jacen figures out how to send force ghosts to the Dark side?
Master Mara’s sacrifice was necessary. Perhaps it’s the catalyst that puts a little edge back in Luke’s character that we haven’t seen in a while.
But you can count me in on the petition because she’s a good character but her loss was inevitable.
I think Mara Jade is a main piece in the sw expanded universe and also is the unsolved fact that the dark side of the force itself can bring back someone from the death, so I think it’s a great chance to get that written as a fact in a book. Although it’s a good idea to remark the way Luke thinks about the “gray side” of the force where someone can use dark side powers without being consumed by the dark side, so he can be the one who brings her back to life even if it’s already set that Cade is the first in many decades to do it. I just hope that our opinion may be listened by the whole crew who is creating this books, cause even me, living in México got quite amazed by this bad news about Mara’s death that I feel really responsible for being the voice of an entire nation who loves SW as much as all the world’s other countries united by the same philosophy.
Well, for one thing, I do not believe she is dead. As I read the book, the signs are all there. It will turn out that she has been in a deep healing trance and hiding in the Force until she is needed to swoop in and save the day in the end. There are plenty of hints in the story pointing to a herioc return. It is going to be a great story - I can’t wait to read it!
If they bring her back, it will be the stupidest possible choice. How could you want to undo the line about Luke “Knowing his world had ended” or however it went. That ripped your guts out. Ben protecting the corpse of his mother, so sad, so horrible, it was story telling mastery, and to go back and simply hit the sci-fi BS undo button would be a slap in the face of the intelligence and depth the Star Wars novels have achieved since the new publisher.
Leave her be. In fact, here’s a spoiler for everyone: they all die. As seen in the LoF comic books, when Luke talks to his descendant Cade.
Or here’s an alternative: Let every character be alive, so we can have another Empire vs Rebel war, and Luke can live another 200 years and kill the emperor every other decade.
Get over it! We need to move this storyline forward! If I read another SW book that brings back the Empire just to have it crushed, I’m going to burn all my SW books!!!!!

When I want “Rip your guts out”, heart-breaking realism I watch the news. I watch and read Star Wars to be entertained, not shocked and depressed at how realistic it is. In fact, if I had seen what happens to Anakin in Episode Three before seeing ROTJ, I probably wouldn’t even be a Star Wars fan right now! I don’t want to be heart-broken. I don’t want my guts ripped out. I like the good guys to win and I like the bad guys to lose, simple as that. Real life if FULL of the alternative, don’t mess with the fantasy.
Jim, my kid watches some shows on Cartoon network that are right up your ally. Theres Jake Long, Ben Ten and the little ninja kids with the cowboy and the walking smiley face guy.
Adult oriented entertainment is best when relates to emotions adults understand. In the end, the good guys will win, but having some real gripping content on the way to that end is what makes the story mean something more. In the end the good guys will win, but it will not be without cost.
I can respect that opinion Jeremy - I guess I just don’t really agree with it. I think you can have gripping content and not be heart-breakingly sad. BTW, for what it’s worth, I’m not signing the petition…..I’m just talking about what I prefer that’s all. It is a good story either way - some of the best Star Wars I’ve read.
However, I do still think Mara will be back; the ability to “hide in the Force” is still new and developing, and the descriptions of it which they’ve provided so far leave room for her to return via that route; unless they burn the body in the next book, I’ll be looking for her return in Revelation.

I agree. It was wrong for the author to kill off Mara Jade. The sacrifice would have been more fitting if Jacen either went after his mother or his sister.

That’s really, really sad. Because last I checked, Episode 6 has a ever so slightly touching scene at the end. Perhaps you’ve seen it? It involves a funeral pyre. And let’s not forget the whole “THEY BLEW UP A PLANET” thing. A planet of pacifists dies? Nah, don’t care. Some jedi gets herself offed fighting for TRUTH, JUSTICE, AND THE DEMOCRATIC WAY like they’re so VERY fond of? OH NO TRAVISS HURT MY TENDER SENSIBILITIES.

anyone who believes mara shouldn’t have died is an idiot plain and simple. she was by far the best choice to die. her death is saposed to tear apart the skywalker family. At the end of Sacrifice Jason even explains the reason. Once Ben learns the truth he will be furious enough to attack Jason in a way as to make him a worthy apprentice. Further, I believe Jason IS the good guy now anyway. They have been saying forever that the Jedi are arrogant and flawed. It is very evident to me that Luke, Mara and the other Jedi are flawed and that Jason is searching for a new true way to achieve peace and whatnot. The Skywalkers need to be torn apart because of their failure. It is necessary. So quite whining, Mara was out of date anyway. Although I agree she was a very interesting character, her death was a very good one, it made Jason a Sith Lord. It fulfilled destiny.

i thought the whole setup was pretty lame. seriously, how many jedi are out there now? tons. why the heck do writers insist on setting up these “must-be” one on one showdowns? also, the fact that they (ben and mara) know jacen’s a sith but don’t tell anyone is stupid as well. gee, let’s not tell luke, cause he’d be mad and might go kill him…. (even though that’s what mara set out to do). she should have told him, and a few more jedi, and went and chopped his spoiled darthy self to pieces. when she surprise attacked jacen from the side in the cave, why did she just ram him? i’m thinking a lightsaber or blaster shot would have been more practical considering the speed. eh, if they were going to kill her off, i wish it had been a better setup. i realize the details are created to support a plot, but the whole end of the book was doing it’s best to ignore logic to support her impending doom. whatever. i hope the rest of the books are better.

Ok, first off, I signed the petition. I did feel like a part of me was missing after I read Sacrifice, much the same way Luke and Ben felt. Ever since Heir To the Emperor, I have adored the character of Mara Jade. She was the strongest and no BS female character in the Star Wars universe. And she has ZERO screen time (she’s not in the new versions of ROTJ - I’ve looked. But “Arica” is in the ROTJ radio play). To see her so strong and emotional over the years and then see her senseless death that was completely out of character was more than a letdown. The former Emperor’s Hand and Jedi Master would have never fallen that easily.
There is a rash of hero character deaths in some of our favorite stories lately. I’m sure there will be petitions on whomever dies in the last Harry Potter book. Last time I checked, you read books to get away from reality. Do we need anymore proof that heroes die? We can turn on any of the news channels about Iraq to learn that. Books are for escape.
I started loving Star Wars the minute the Tantive V was being chased by the Devestator in 1977. I have been reading the books over the years and was soooo glad they continued the stories after ROTJ. (Bows to Timothy Zahn, who SHOULD have been the author at least to write Mara’s death). The last several Del Rey series with few exceptions did not seem like Star Wars to me. The original had so much chemistry and humor with adventure and that has been lacking for a while in the Star Wars series. The only ones I have loved is Tatooine Ghost and Survivor’s Quest. Instead, we get death and gloom and more war. Sure they make for adventure, and I’m all for moving forward. But, at least make it creative.
At the end of ROTS, I BELIEVED Anakin became a Sith. He didn’t just say “Hey, I killed some kids. I am Darth Vader!”
I still do not buy that Darth Emo is a Sith just because he killed his Aunt Mara and that an ancient tassel gave him something to interpret badly. And then he just says, “I am Darth Caedus.”

In the meantime, I did write some fanfics honoring Mara Jade. I put pics of her on my desktop and I bought the new figures of Luke and Mara coming in August.
But, what I’m hoping is they claim that this current series is another Infinities issue and will start over. Or could the Mara that died be a clone? It would explain why she was out of character.

THE POINT! Why is it so many people can’t comprehend the fact that plot points can be painful and good at the same time?! Sirius/Dumbledore/Cedric/who-gives-an-osik dies in Harry Potter and everyone goes “NO IT DIDNT HAPPEN THEY’LL COME BACK NEXT BOOK SHUT UP GO AWAY MEANIE.” I had really, really, really hoped that wouldn’t happen to us. I had hoped we were more mature than a bunch of Harry Potter fans that mope about Hermione and Ron not being together yet. I’d sell my left arm for us to be more mature than that. Things can make you cry and still be good literature. Things can make you stay up at night thinking of what-ifs and still be marvelous plotlines. If the crying and the what-ifs get to you too much, that’s what fanfiction is for. But being upset about a book shows the book made you care, which is the best thing a book can do. I said it before, and I say it again. The fact that you guys are so up in arms proves that what you’re complaining about was GOOD. Would you be this enraged if Kevin J Anderson said that the Death Star was silver instead of grey? No, because no one gives a crap what adjective he uses to describe a particular space station. But saying that Mara is dead, now THERE’S something people care about. And because people care….one point to Sacrifice, no points to stupidity.

There’s enough depressing crap going on in the world right now than to have to constantly see the best of the Star Wars universe being picked off one by one to the point that I can understand those that don’t want anything to do with the Expanded Universe. At first I was a die hard fan and totally disagreed with their view about the EU. Now I’m in agreement with them. The longer time goes by and other parties get involved with expanding the Star Wars story the more it’s getting screwed up to the point that there isn’t a story worth telling any longer. Either bring her back or put the pens down and give it up.
There’s a simple answer to that. Buy yourself another set of DVDs and don’t read the EU. Don’t complain to others about stuff you put yourself through.
Luke needs to go and join his beloved wife. He’s had a good run but now it’s just getting old. And if Mara was meant to come back why didn’t look try it himself. He could have atempted it by filling his hand with life-giving-force-energy, as he did once before.
Mara if anything was and is one of the best of the lot she was a lot smarter then the author made her out to be.
For example if Tim Zahn had been writing Sacrifice he wouldn’t have killed off Mara in such a blatantly stupid way as Travissty did.
Mara had a danger sense not to mention knew jedi healing yet the author doesn’t take those into account furthermore the way the EU’s been going as of late is a blatant rip off of the prequel trilogy.
I mean you have someone who pretends to be a good guy when in reality that person’s a sith and he goes around killing people while deceiving others in order to obtain power then you compound that with the whole ‘Im going to do good in the galaxy and save people’ thing not to mention the whole exterminating jedi thing.
There is no purpose in Mara’s death there never was, there would’ve been a purpose if Luke got pissed off and attacked Jacen and killed him but there wasn’t one.
If anything they should at least have her back as a force ghost and do a decent job with the characters instead of letting no talent authors who can’t stand plots, hate jedi and anyone whose not mandalorian in nature run things.

Everyone dies someday, deal with it, it was only a matter of time for Mara. Heck, they coulda killed her off back when Ben was born, but they didn’t! She has been close to death many times, she got what she needed!
Sure, she was an uber sweet Star Wars chick, but oh well. There was a point to her death you idiots. The Skywalker and Solo families were being torn apart slowly, and Mara’s death will tear them almost completely apart. Jacen is now a Sith, he has Uber powers, but he will die.
I saw a mention of the rule of two above, Darth Krayt will be training some sithy apprentices atm on Korribban, the Rule of Two will be destroyed anyway. ALSO, Caedus doesn’t need his apprentice 5 minutes after he becomes a Sith Lord!
Also, she can’t be a Force ghost if her body didn’t… dissolve like Yoda’s and Obi Wans did. She left the body behind so that there would be something left for her family, and maybe give some clues as to who killed her.

Don’t. Now you’re getting into the realm of declaring what an author would or wouldn’t do, and you have absolutely no right to do that. And Traviss is one of the most gifted writers writing under the Star Wars label, and I for one will not tolerate her being insulted. Stick to people actually present in the discussion.
And as for what Zahn would do, Zahn’s a good author, and Sacrifice was meant to be a heart-wrenching book. I’d bet you anything you’d be just as dissatisfied with his ending as with the current one.

I think Jacen says that the trick to train somebody is to push them hard enough but not go overboard, in which case the become disappointed and they give up. Mara Jade was a great female character, and who’s left to replace her? Leia, the aristocratic, lame, heartbroken lady or her immature, scruffy daughter Jaina (although the story may do better if it is true she ends up with Jag Fel). Mara was more real life, like people who started with nothing (unlike Princess Leia), used their talents, did not despair during hard times, and were still able to be humble and understanding and have humor. It was a good think to see her force ghost in Legacy talking to Cade. Yes, at some point Mara had to die, probably a violent death (a knife for a knife) to pay for her own crimes, but I am not sure I care enough for the trio Luke, Leia and Han.

I fail to see why everyone is trying to convince me that Mara’s such a wildly fantastic character. You don’t think I know that? She’s of MY favorites, too. I can’t stand Leia, I hate Han, and half the time I can guess what Luke’s gonna say before he says it. But the fact that I think Mara’s a swell character doesn’t mean that Traviss/Zahn/Lucas/Tickle-Me-Elmo can’t decide to kill her off. I repeat: If you can’t handle the EU, and if you can’t handle not controlling every aspect of the EU, stop reading it!
You guys are pulling out argument and argument here. “Leia’s too weak a character to replace her!” “People can associate more with Mara!” “Her death was (in my completely-ignorant-of-anything-that- may-be-happening-later-in-LotF eyes) pointless and nonsensical!” But the final facts aren’t gonna change. You don’t write, work, draw, or interpretive dance for Lucas and associates. That means a) you don’t know how this has already been made to fit with future events, b) your opinion, while I suppose being worth SOMETHING, is worth just about the same as all those people demanding midichlorians be retconned out of existence, and c) rather presumptuous. Hm…well, I certainly agree with you on the first point, I’m horrid when it comes to organization. However to waste time your time had to have value to begin with. trying telling them how disappointed you were about her death
and ask them to reconsider bring her back

Dont send them a profanity laced letter or you will not get there attention

For the sake of civility, I should mention that in my experience the best way to get a corporation’s attention is by phone. In person they’ll call the cops, and email they’ll just sort and send back form responses. But if you get even 70 people complaining to them by phone, they’ll certainly realize there’s an issue.
vader helped kill mace windu and then went to the jedi temple and killed alot of jedi.a room full of younglings too. that combined with turning his back on obiwan was his sacrifice. therefore jacens sacrifice was kalendi or whatever her name was in betrayal.i think lumiya wanted him to kill a skywalker so that luke would go nuts.
ps i think luke did go nuts when he decapitated lumiya and she got what she wanted.luke has started to slip into darkness and that may have been her plan all along.
also mara will be a ghost.noone wants to sign the petition besides those who have already. half the people say they wont and i think some people think that by writing on this page that they have signed it but they havent.

This is exactly why I stopped reading after NJO.
Star Wars is a great thing, but the Expanded Universe is getting pretty tired and has been for quite some time excepting occasional books (Timothy Zahn’s).

the eu is just fine. as long as luke stays alive, the core story of star wars remains. its been forty years and while i hate seeing these great characters die, i think we should accept it.LUKE MUST LIVE but otherwise everything is fair game. we already know artoo is still around in legacy and in my opinion artoo is the core of star wars him and luke of course
Here’s something to ponder:
I came across a passage in a past novel set in the NJO books that I found interesting. In Rebirth, Mara gives birth to Ben albeit through her own illness given to her by Nom Anor. After Luke, Mara, and baby Ben combine in the Force to conquer Mara’s illness and help birthing Ben, Luke has a vision of Ben as a young boy. Look at this excerpt:
“He saw a young boy with hair of red-gold, tracing lines in the sand.
He saw himself, holding the boy, watching glowing lines of traffic move through the sky of some strange world–like Coruscant, but not Coruscant.
He did not see Mara, though he looked, and that brought a new note of discord to his thoughts.
Always in motion is the future, Yoda had once told him. Still, he reached farther, searching for Mara, farther along that uncertain, shifting path. The boy grew older; he was at the helm of a starship of strange design…” *
Now, for those who have read Sacrifice, tell me this isn’t eerie. Rebirth was published in 2001. Could it be possible the grand authors for Del Rey had planned the death of Mara this early? The ship he saw could very well be the Sith ship. And the fact that Luke couldn’t see Mara in the vision could be premonition.
Just wondering about your thoughts on this.

Yeah, she’s fairly careful in always saying she can’t read fanfiction, etc., so I asked around, and it’s a common thing with big series like Star Wars.
I have a question for you people, since you seem to know a lot about EU. Where can one find the story of Mara and Lando (it is mentioned in Vision of the Future)?

Mara and Lando? Isn’t that in KJA’s books? Jedi Academy or whatever? It had “jedi” in the title and it was by Anderson, ergo I stayed away from it like my life depended on it. So I’m not really sure. But I think it’s his three that they go off roaming the galaxy together in.

As much as I HATE that Mara died, I understand the reasoning behind it. She was the logical choice because you can’t kill off Luke, Leia, or Han! I was about as upset about this as I was when Chewie got killed(and was just mad when Anakin died b/c that meant Chewie died for nothing!).
But has anyone noticed the “trend” with these newer series? They start of god-awful depressing and make you feel like there is no possible way for it to end well and about half-way through the series, it starts to pick back up and the good guys start winning!
Mara is one of my favorite characters and I’m not positive she’s gone for good; who knows what will happen in the future books?! But if they keep her gone, I’m positive that her death will be the catalyst for something big. But for real, someone needs to kick Jacen’s arse!

I don’t know about the “sacrifice”, but I suppose there are varied methods of Sith teaching styles just like Jedi teaching styles. After all, you’ve got Palpatine’s “let me manipulate you into becoming evil while pretending to be all buddy-buddy” vs Kreia’s “hey, let’s go destroy the Force.”

I have bought every single one of star wars, and i have been entertained, the good guys have setbacks but they triumphed in the end. I liked her character, yeah I know all of Lukes relationships have been plagued by death or something else has caused it to fail (because or reasons Mara gives in Vision of the future) but hey Luke has turned out good. I also think that by killing her the writers have also brought Luke closer to the dark side, closer than when he was the Palpatine’s apperentice, because he took revenge on Lumiya

On another note, that entry was posted August 1st. The last time I was even /approaching/ being less than civil was before August 2nd. Do you have a point in bringing this up now, or are you just being antagonistic?
Now, on the matter of Inferno, keep in mind it was probably written well before Sacrifice was released. For that matter, the following book is probably already written, and possibly the one after that, etc. They take a while to write, after all, so they kind of need to start early. Wouldn’t be practical to call back three or four books and have them completely rewritten.
If you’re going to get a result, it’ll be a few books down the line.

Does anybody wonder about the flow-walking thing Cadeus does? Well, I do. I’m not quite sure which purpose this part of the story arc may serve, but what if he has a sudden change of heart in invincible (if he is redeemed) and decides to fix the mess he’s caused? He could flow walk back to the fight with Mara and take her away with him to the current time line before his old self kills her. Or maybe Ben (or Luke) learn how to do it and bring Mommy back. Maybe just wishful thinking but I still have hope that in the end everything will work out fine (which is not really easy, given the Legacy comics). I mean that’s not the way it’s supposed to be - is it? Chewbacca had a heroic death, Anakin went out in a blaze of glory but Mara didn’t. The way she died is just not fitting, it doesn’t feel right. Personally I can’t stand the thought of seeing Jacen being redeemed or even alive at the end of LOTF if Mara stays where she is now
but that’s just my opinion. Jeremy talked about parts of sacrifice being story telling mastery and I agree with that. Of course her death was supposed to tear the Skywalker-Solo Clan apart. But what about the time after LOTF? Everything seems pretty dark and f**** up now. Do we really want to see them treat each other with guilt and pain or do we want them to be a family again in the future? This thing still needs some kind of closure, the funeral is not enough. (I didn’t read Inferno, I’m just spoiled rotten) I don’t know what is still to come but it is surely not over and remember her last words: “Luke will crush you… and I refuse… to let you… destroy the future… for my Ben”. To me this sounds like a kind of prophecy. So I hope and pray for her to come back. If she doesn’t I hope they kill Luke too in Invincible (and he is my favourite character beside Mara). They have been a team for so long, I just can’t see him going on alone….

it was KAREN TRAVISS idea to kill off mara

I heard on an interview with Karen Traviss that it was her idea to kill Mara Jade and it was mentioned again in the interview at the end of Inferno. Mara was Timothy Zahn’s favorite character, and he should have been the one to kill her off. But it was a stupid idea to kill her off. BRING MARA BACK!
